CDWP clears Rs. 38Bn for the second phase of the Cross-border optic fiber project under CPEC

The Central Develo­pment Working Party has cleared Rs. 38Bn for the second phase of the Cross-border optic fiber project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The purpose of this project is to ensure uninterrupted connectivity between the Northern and Southern borders of Pakistan through an alternate path. Moreover, The project will help improve the telecom and ICT industry of Pakistan, promote tourism, and create trading opportunities for northern areas of the country.

ISLAMABAD: The Central Develo­pment Working Party (CDWP) on Wednesday cleared five development projects at a cumulative cost of about Rs54 billion including Rs38bn second phase of a project for laying cross-border optic fiber cable with China.

CPEC projects safe and sound due to effective security measures: DG ISPR

Major General Babar Iftikhar, the spokesperson of the country’s military while commenting on the Indian conspiracies to sabotage CPEC said that CPEC is safe and moving forward due to effective security measures taken by Pakistan. He said that no scheme of adversaries in this regard will succeed. He was giving an interview to Global village space.Major General Babar Iftikhar, the spokesperson of the country’s military, has said India is targeting the international image of Pakistan when they try to target the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

In an interview with Global Village Space, the military spokesperson said terrorists are being used by New Delhi to target the project and the manpower associated with CPEC’s construction, however, he said the measures taken by Islamabad to safeguard the project have proven to be effective and India has “not been able to retard the progress of this project”.

 

In November, the country’s top diplomat and the military spokesperson presented a dossier detailing India’s involvement in terror attacks in Pakistan during the media conference. Multiple video clips and audio clips, along with documents, were presented during the media conference of Indian handlers and terrorists communicating with each other and Indian intelligence handlers passing on instructions to terrorists in Pakistan.

ML-1 to turn Peshawar to a regional economic hub

A report published by China Economic Net said that the ML-1 railway line project will turn Pakistan, particularly Peshawar into a global business hub. This project, it says, will open new avenues of connectivity in the whole region by connecting Pakistani market with those of central Asian states. According to the report, experts call ML-1 project a “game changer of CPEC” and predict that in future Peshawar city will the center of business activities. Not only Pakistan, but the countries of Central Asia, wherein many are land-locked, will also benefit from it. For the rehabilitation and upgradation of the 1,872-kilometer railway line, the Government of Pakistan’s Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved ML-1 project worth $ 6.8 billion on August 5,2020.

Good harvest achieved by Chinese Maize-soybean strip intercropping technology in Pakistan

According to a report published by China Economic Net (CEN), Maize-soybean strip intercropping technology, an advanced agricultural technology introduced from China, has resulted in good yield both under irrigated and rainfed conditions. The data shows that yield per hectare of the intercropping system is more profitable than the sole cropping system i.e. the yield from former system is equivalent to the yield of crops on 1.5 hectares of the later system.

SLAMABAD: Maize-soybean strip intercropping technology, an advanced agricultural technology introduced from China, achieved good harvest in various demonstration plots in Pakistan both under irrigated and rainfed conditions.

According to a report published by China Economic Net (CEN), the data indicated that the yield per hectare of the intercropping system was equivalent to the yield of crops on 1.5 hectares of the sole cropping system. Therefore, the intercropping system is more profitable in obtaining a higher net income with less input. More specifically, under irrigated conditions, in Vehari, the yields of intercropped maize and soybean respectively reached 7,608 kg/ha and 1,029 kg/ha, and in Bahawalpur, the data is 7,219 kg/ha and 887 kg/ha.

 Expert calls for establishing livestock businesses along CPEC routes to address the poverty issue

Hafiz Wasi Muhammad Khan, executive member of the Pakistan Agriculture Scientist Forum and renowned agriculture expert in Pakistan, in an interview to GwadarPro, said that Pakistan can establish livestock businesses and farming business along the CPEC route. He was of the view that this would be a significant contribution towards poverty alleviation and addressing the issue of unemployment. In this regard, China can provide necessary logistic support which will be beneficial for both China and Pakistan.

China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) can support Pakistan’s livestock sector to mitigate poverty, says a report published by Gwadar Pro on Tuesday.

The CPEC’s road network is about three thousand kilometers long, and in some areas along the route, a lot of potential exists to develop the livestock sector and to establish a farming business, the report said quoting Hafiz Wasi Muhammad Khan, executive member of the Pakistan Agriculture Scientist Forum and renowned agriculture expert in Pakistan.

Chinese Companies keen to invest in Allama Iqbal Industrial City: FIEDMC chairman

Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (FIEDMC) chairman Mian Kashif Ashfaq said that due to right economic policies and coherent foreign policy, investors’ confidence has been restored in Pakistan. He said that 25 Chinese companies and foreign ones are willing to invest in Allama Iqbal Industrial city, Faisalabad. He thanked the government of Punjab for cooperating with FIEDMC in this regard. Moreover, he said that steps were also being taken to set up desks of the Federal Board of Revenue, Board of Investment, Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) in the city to facilitate investors.

 

 FAISALABAD: Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (FIEDMC) chairman Mian Kashif Ashfaq Sunday said more than 25 Chinese companies had signed accords to invest in Allama Iqbal Industrial City Faisalabad. Chairing a meeting, Mian Kashif said several Chinese and other foreign companies were in contact with the FIEDMC for investment in the city.

Chinese Commerce Minister awarded the prestigious “Hilal-i-Pakistan” by Moin ul Haq

Pakistan’s ambassador to China Moin ul Haq, on behalf of President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi, conferred the prestigious “Hilal-i-Pakistan” on Chinese Commerce Minister Zhong Shan at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. The award was given to recognize his outstanding and pivotal role in strengthening Pak-China relations. He played a key role in the materialization of the second phase of the Pakistan-China Free Trade Agreement facilitated Pakistan’s active participation in China International Import Expo and the 17th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO).

Chinese Commerce Minister Zhong Shan was awarded the prestigious “Hilal-i-Pakistan” by Pakistan’s top diplomat in China on behalf of Pakistani President Arif Alvi at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on Thursday.

The award was presented by Pakistani Ambassador to China Moin ul Haque to recognize Zhong’s “outstanding services to Pakistan and strengthening of Pakistan-China relations”.

Dhabeji SEZ to provide 100,000 jobs, attract $1 bn FDI

ISLAMABAD, Dec 24 (APP):Dhabeji Special Economic Zone (SEZ), to be developed in Sindh province, would attract over $1 billion foreign direct investment besides providing over 100,000 direct and indirect jobs for locals.The SEZ is being developed under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for which the government of Sindh has already allocated 1530 acres of land in Thatta, sources in Sindh Special Economic Zones Management Company (SEZMC) said.

The sources added that the development cost of the project was estimated at $120 million.

According to the development plan, the utilities (electricity, gas etc) would be available in the Dhabeji SEZs in a couple of years and the federal government has already approved Rs 4.3 billion fund to construct a dedicated grid for the SEZ which would provide up to 250 Megawatts of electricity at zero point of the project to be completed by 2023.

COAS, Chinese envoy discuss matters of mutual interest, bilateral defense cooperation, and regional security

China’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the General Headquarters (GHQ) and discussed matters of mutual interest, bilateral defense cooperation, regional security situation, and CPEC. Chinese ambassador lauded the role of the Pak army in ensuring peace and stability and vowed to strengthen bilateral ties.RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that the recent visit of the Chinese defence minister to Pakistan will further strengthen Pakistan’s time-tested relations with its ‘iron brother’.

The army chief said this while talking to China’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong on Monday who called on him here at the General Headquarters (GHQ), said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

According to the ISPR, matters of mutual interest, bilateral defense cooperation and regional security situation including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) were discussed during the meeting.

Pak-China Joint Air Exercises to strengthen bilateral cooperation and friendship: CJCSC

Pakistan formally invites Afghanistan to benefit from CPEC’s connectivity

Speaker of the Pakistani National Assembly Asad Qaisar during a meeting with Afghan Minister of Industry and Commerce Nisar Ahmad Ghoryani in Islamabad briefed him about the ample investment opportunities created by special economic zones especially Rashakai Special Economic Zone under CPEC. He said that increased economic coordination between the two countries would boost regional connectivity and bring prosperity. Ghoryani appreciated Pakistan’s offer to join CPEC and said that he will discuss the proposal with his government.

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) — Speaker of the Pakistani National Assembly Asad Qaisar on Wednesday invited Afghan businessmen to take part in economic activities under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Talking to Afghan Minister of Industry and Commerce Nisar Ahmad Ghoryani in Islamabad, Qaisar invited Afghan businessmen to invest in the Rashakai Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in northwestern Pakistan to be set up under CPEC, according to a statement from the speaker’s office.
