Chinese hi-tech, Pakistani cultural elements integrated into OLMT: Yuan Jun

EIJING, Nov. 2 (APP): The Orange Line Metro Train (OMLT)’s design was a result of the cooperation between the Chinese and Pakistan companies which integrated the local architecture and cultural elements into the project.Viewed from above, the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) is winding through Lahore city like a shinning ribbon. “The color of the Orange Line was inspired by the national flower of Pakistan, frangipani, which is lively, vibrant and gives people a warm feeling,” Yuan Jun, President of NORINCO International told China Economic Net (CEN) on Monday.

Apart from the appearance, the design of the No. 13 station also absorbs the merits of Pakistan’s famous Mosques, Yuan added. “The Orange Line’s whole design was a result of the cooperation between the Chinese and Pakistani companies. Bearing in mind that Lahore is a historical city honored with rich culture, we take the style of local architectures, religions, and customs into consideration, hoping that the design could meet the requirements for functional use as well as improve the urban landscape.”

 

 As an early harvest project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the Orange Line was constructed by China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. and China North Industries Corporation and was operated by Guangzhou Metro Group, NORINCO International and Daewoo Pakistan Express Bus Service.

Matiari-Lahore HVDC Transmission line new milestone in Pakistan’s power history

BEIJING, Nov. 4 (APP): Recently, one of the key projects of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Matiari to Lahore ±660 kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission Line Project, has almost been completed as its Lahore converter station DC bipolar finished open line test. The 886 kilometers of transmission line runs from the southwest to the northeast of Pakistan, passing through the provinces of Sindh and Punjab.

t is the first ±660 kV DC project overseas of the State Grid Company of China (SGCC) with completely independent intellectual property rights and all its economic and technical indicators are at the international leading level, according to China Economic Net (CEN) on Wednesday.

Due to the old circuits and inadequate power transmission channels, it is difficult to transport the abundant power resources in southern Pakistan to the north, where people suffer from a severe shortage of electricity.

During the epidemic, equipment manufacturers faced delayed work, insufficient staff, and reduced production capacity. Major shipping companies around the world also suspended multiple routes.

 China signs agreement with Pakistan to buy commodities

Pakistan is included in the list of 15 countries with whom China’s State Development and Investment Corp has signed to buy more than 20 kinds of commodities including grain, fruit, textiles, and chemical products. The contract was signed during the ongoing third China International Import Expo being held in Shanghai. With the signing of this contract, Pakistan-China trade ties have got a boost.

BEIJING, Nov 7 (APP): Pakistan Ambassador to China, Moin ul Haque has praised the important work carried out by Xinjiang Production and Construction Corporation (XPCC) enterprises on various infrastructure projects in Pakistan.

He made these remarks in his keynote speech at the XPCC investment and trade cooperation forum on the side-lines of the Third China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, according a statement issued by Pakistan Embassy Beijing.

Taunsa hydropower project among others gets green signal from cabinet body on CPEC

During a meeting of the special committee of the Punjab government monitoring projects under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, the members unanimously approved the Taunsa Hydropower Project Taunsa Barrage, other telecommunication, and agriculture projects. The meeting attended by provincial ministers Mian Aslam Iqbal, Hashim Jawan Bakht, chairman planning, and development (P&D).

LAHORE:Punjab Finance Minister Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht on Friday said that research, knowledge and acquisition of technology should be given top priority instead of investing in projects from China under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Punjab.

Chairing the maiden meeting of the Cabinet Committee constituted by the chief minister on CPEC projects in Punjab, the minister observed that the Chinese experience in industry, agriculture and advanced technology could ensure an increase in production. The committee unanimously approved Taunsa Hydropower Project Taunsa Barrage; two projects for construction of roads of the Communications Department. Reviewing the progress of ongoing projects, the minister directed the secretary transport to make a comprehensive plan to increase the number of passengers in the Orange Train. The energy department should focus on meeting the energy needs of the province instead of national level power plants, he said adding that the main function of the department should be supplying electricity to industrial zones, educational institutions and hospitals at reasonable rates.

RCCI to hold a three-day CPEC business conference in Gwadar from Nov 16

The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) is going to hold a three-day business conference titled “China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Central Asia” in Gwadar from November 16 to 18. The purpose of the conference is to deliberate progress on CPEC, highlight investment potential in Gwadar port city, and exploring new trade opportunities with the Central Asian states under CPEC. The conference will be attended by Chief Minister, Governor Balochistan, ministers, high government officials, foreign diplomats, and trade and industrial personalities.

FTA-II boosts the exports of Pakistani gem products to the Chinese market

BEIJING: Building brands, selling goods of high quality and co-working with China to design and produce – Pakistani gem products have embarked on a different path of development in the Chinese market ever since the second phase of Pakistan-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA-II) came into effect.

“I use high-quality raw stones and high standards of workmanship to make jewelry, providing consumers the best,” said Aqeel Ahmed Chaudhry, founder of WINZA from Pakistani gemstone firm Cosmo Enterprises, while talking to China Economic Net (CEN) during the third China International Import Expo (CIIE).

Chaudhry, who has been living in China for more than a decade, launched WINZA jewelry store in Shanghai’s glitzy business district, producing crowns for champions of the International Super Model Contest, Miss Earth, and other competitions.

Pakistan was given special partner status at forthcoming CAEXPO in China

Pakistan has been given a special partner status at the forthcoming 17th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) scheduled to be held on November 27-30 in Nanning, Guangxi province of China. The expo will be co-sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of China and its counterparts in the 10 ASEAN member countries as well as the ASEAN Secretariat. It will be conducted both online and offline. The points of discussion in the forums will be China-ASEAN FTA, health, international industrial cooperation, technology transfer, information harbor, statistics, insurance, and electricity.

The CAEXPO will be co-sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of China and its counterparts in the 10 ASEAN member countries as well as the ASEAN Secretariat.

CPEC phase-II to focus on industrialization, agriculture, and socioeconomic development: Shibli Faraz

While addressing to National seminar on “CPEC: Challenges & Opportunities”, Shibli Faraz, the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting termed CPEC as a catalyst for the socio-economic development of Pakistan. The CPEC, he said, has made remarkable progress in its first phase. The majority of the projects planned in the transportation, infrastructure, and energy sectors have been carried out successfully and many are in the execution stage. Moreover, he said that CPEC’s second phase will focus on industrialization, agriculture, and socioeconomic development.

Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) receives Rs 17m grant from China

Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China signed an MoU to help needy people in wake of COVID-19. In this regard, PRCS received an emergency grant of $17 million. PRCS Chairman Abrar ul Haq, on the occasion, thanked the embassy for the much-needed support and said that the amount means a lot for the betterment of the conditions of people during the pandemic. Chinese Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Mrs. Pang Chunxue lauded the role of PRCS for their humanitarian efforts.

ISLAMABAD-China on Friday provided an emergency grant of Rs17 million to the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) for medical and livelihood assistance of the people severely hit by the COVID-19.A statement released by PRCS said that MoU in this regard was signed between PRCS and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Islamabad here on Friday.

China to support Gwadar’s pivotal role in regional cooperation

Chinese Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Zhao Lijian appreciated the role of Gwadar port in regional cooperation on trade and goods. It is worthy to note that the international transit activities have been started in Gwadar port with the arrival of the first fish cargo for onward shipment to China. BEIJING, Nov 24 (APP): Expressing happiness over start of international transit activities at the Gwadar Port, Chinese Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Zhao Lijian on Tuesday said that China supported the greater role of the port, an important component of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) flagship project, in the regional cooperation on trade and goods. “We are glad to see the new progress. We support the Gwadar Port’s greater role in the regional cooperation on trade and goods,” he said during his regular briefing held here. The international transit activities have started with the arrival of the first fish cargo at the Gwadar port for onward shipment to China. In the coming days, more vessels containing international cargo, including LPG, steel pipes, DAP fertilizer for transit to Afghanistan is scheduled to arrive at the Gwadar Port.

 Pakistan and China pledge to enhance defence cooperation

Minister of National Defence China General Wei Fenghe met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the General Headquarters and discussed matters related to mutual interest, regional security, and enhancing bilateral defense collaboration. In this regard, a memorandum of understanding was also signed. The army chief thanked the national defense minister for China’s support to Pakistan on all international forums and reiterated his commitment to further strengthen these ties.  General Wei Fenghe lauded the role of the Pakistan army for ensuring CPEC’s security and making it a safe project.

Pakistan and China signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for enhancing defence cooperation between the two armies, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday.
